ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the development of new products for the flagship Nutraceutical brand, Solaray.
    • Approximately 60 sets of new products will be launched in the next five years.
    • The cadence for launches is quarterly. A set of new products will be launched each quarter.
    • There will be three levels of new products launched each quarter A, B, and C. A-level products will be major launches with consumer-facing marketing dollars spent against them. It might be a single sku or more likely a family of sku’s. B-level product launches will receive less marketing support but will have social/influencer/web marketing. And C-level products will only have in-store activation efforts.
  • Lead building the business cases for each of the products we are launching and integrating that thinking into the roadmap of innovation.
    • There is a current roadmap for the next five years.
    • The current roadmap must be constantly updated to take into account new trends and opportunities.
    • The business cases will have to contemplate the size of the prize, the ease of launching, investment efforts, competitive sustainability, the timing of the launch to sync with retailers’ windows, technology opportunities, trends, etc.
    • Should use sales data (internal and external), secondary industry data, and consumer data to analyze and build the business cases.
    • Help sell the products into the organization from big picture board strategy, to financial forecasts, to coordination with sales windows and key account launch windows.
  • Develop great new products.
    • Using insights about the consumer to develop great new products that “just work better” than the competitors.
    • Use your creativity to conceive of and design great products.
    • Craft great BrandPoints, benefits, names, packages, etc. for each sub-brand or sub-group of products launched.
    • Interface with the Solaray Marketing Activation Senior Manager who will be responsible for preparing a marketing activation program to launch and nurture the new products.
  • Project manage these products toward launch.
    • There are many projects that must be attended to. They are all at different stages of development. Some are in business cases, some are in consumer testing, some are in search of vendors or ingredients, some are in formulation development, some are in package development, some are being pitched to big accounts, some are being prepared for immediate launch, etc.
    • While there are support teams across the company to help with operationalizing these new products, this role is like air traffic control of the whole set of products and insuring that they are all landing on the right runways at the right time.
    • Interface with the Solaray Product Manager to take over the products at launch.
    • Must be able to utilize and navigate through custom software applications specific to job functions.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Master of Business Administration degree (MBA).
  • Minimum 6 years consumer brand packaged goods marketing experience.
  • Innovation and new product development experience is a must.
  • Strong project management skills and commitment to executional excellence.
  • Quick turnaround and tenacity are important, along with the ability to proactively problem solve and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to balance thinking strategically with diving deep into details and executing projects.
  • Self-motivated, positive, and passionate.
  • Be familiar with managing all lines of P&L.
  • Exceptional oral and written communicator capable of explaining complex and/or abstract ideas in clear and succinct terms for senior management, trade customers, and consumers.
  • Both creative and analytical skills are required in identifying a need and creating and managing consumer products. Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, margin, ACV, etc.
  • Strong experience using MS Office Suite including, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
