Job Requirements

We are an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited cannabis testing laboratory in Las Vegas with an immediate need for a Scientific Director to join our team. Under Nevada law, all medicinal and adult-use cannabis products are required to undergo mandatory safety and potency testing to measure cannabinoids, terpenoids, mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticide residues, residual solvent levels, and microbiological contaminants. 

We are looking for a self-motivated scientist who can oversee the scientific operation of a cannabis safety and potency testing laboratory. Responsibilities for the position will include hiring scientific staff, interpreting laws and regulations for laboratory assays, reviewing data, keeping up to date with new industry trends and techniques, developing and maintaining client relationships, and managing the scientific direction of the laboratory.

The Scientific Director must be flexible, willing to learn and adapt, comfortable interfacing with clients, be a big-picture thinker, and be interested in helping establish scientific standards in a new industry.

The ideal candidate must have:

Effective communication and leadership skills

High attention to detail

Client-focused with the ability to interpret and explain results to non-scientists

Extensive experience operating and maintaining HPLC, GC-FID/MS, ICP-AES/MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS

Experience with microbiology and molecular biology

Ability to fill multiple roles and provide mentoring for less experienced scientists 

Knowledge/interest in the cannabis industry

Experience analyzing samples in a high-throughput laboratory

Ability to multitask and oversee multiple projects at the same time

Familiar with ISO 17025 requirements


Minimum: MSc in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related field

At least 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation

At least 2 years of non-academic management experience
