Lucas Group has partnered with a manufacturing company in their search for a Plant Human Resources Manager based out of the Kalamazoo, Michigan area. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work to oversee various HR projects including branding, employee relations, and any recruitment needs at this multi-shift manufacturing site.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Utilize community relations, outreach assistance, and active employee referrals to successfully manage recruitment, retention, and development of employees and hourly employees particularly 

  • Provide structure and organization of new hire orientations

  • Design career pathing and succession planning as well as performance management materials to champion company branding and positive employee and labor relations 

  • Communicate regularly with all levels of the organization and support high performance for labor union employees through adequate training programs for technical and non-technical skills, and well as providing addition coaching and facilitation of the development of these skills and additional process improvements to focus on the customer and reduce costs 

  • Identify labor relations issues and proactively work to answer collective bargaining agreement questions and concerns related to company policy to understand, investigate, document, provide leadership with recommendations for resolving grievances, and handle any disciplinary actions that may be needed

  • Participate in labor negotiations and support contract compliance initiatives by working closely with the leadership team at this facility 

  • Design and implement programs to align the workforce with company overall strategy and values while building a positive work culture focused on safety initiatives and training 

  • Ensure compliance with local and federal labor and employment regulations and laws 

  • Facilitate Affirmative Action plans, diversity programs, Biannual reviews of EEO policy, and investigations of possible violations of EEO policy 

  • Maintain data and process personnel actions for payroll, HR, and attendance and leave programs

  • Handle all unemployment claims as employee representative

Educational & Work Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field required

  • 3+ years HR experience

  • Strong preference for union experience, but not required 

  • Proven leadership experience and ability to demonstrate fitness for managing direct reports. Management experience a plus 

  • Manufacturing industry experience required from any continuous flow and 24/7 facility 

  • Ability to foster cooperative working relationships throughout the organization and leverage these relationships to provide constructive feedback to management, employees, and union members 

  • Experience in large, matrixed, global organization 

  • Experience spearheading complex projects on the regional and global levels 

  • Utilize data analysis and process-based evidence to determine best practices and change in dynamic environments 

  • Prioritize activities and manage time using multi-tasking skills and detailed oriented problem solving 

  • Working knowledge of talent management and talent planning

  • Highly effective under tight deadlines and competing priorities

  • Positive and energetic personality that can create and lead a collaborative environment with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to work in person and on-site 5 days a week
