The Global Strategic Sourcing Leader will develop & manage complex projects utilizing a broad set of commercial and technical sourcing levers to deliver sustainable impact in cost, quality, and service. Sourcing Leader will go beyond standard tools to evaluate and influence demand patterns, review product and service specifications, improve product quality, and leverage suppliers to improve manufacturing process. This role plans, directs and supervises global strategic sourcing projects for critical direct materials (examples: metals and electronics), indirect services, and contract manufacturers.
The Global Sourcing Leader will evaluate quality, on-time delivery, and pricing volatility; study market trends, interviews vendors and recommends sources of supply; and improve the operations planning process by optimizing working capital, preventing disruptions, and developing a purchasing plan.
  • Collaborate with global team to drive strategic sourcing, global initiatives, and share best practices
  • Measure impact of sourcing, planning, and purchasing execution and leverage visual management to communicate results and opportunities for improvement
  • Evaluate cash flow forecast for global savings projects, assure implementation of projects, and communicate progress to executive leadership team
  • Execute global strategic sourcing projects, leveraging analytical skills to identify key opportunities, review with stakeholders, capture inputs from global suppliers, evaluate and execute negotiations strategy, and capture value through implementation plan
  • Develop and implement strategies for negotiations of price reductions and payment terms
  • Participate and lead problem-solving activities to demonstrate value of solutions and assure alignment to strategy and timely execution
  • Execute global supplier management strategy to achieve near and long-term value creation
  • Analyze current and forecasted external spend to determine key opportunities for strategic sourcing and maintain “heat map” of global category opportunities
  • Conduct complex analysis of baseline and product requirements to establish compelling business case and value proposition for proposed global sourcing projects
  • Maintain inventory of savings opportunities, update inputs as required to support business case, collaborate with key stakeholders to assure support, and activate to assure ongoing pipeline of value creation
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of global "Supplier Scorecards" to measure performance and value contribution, and leverage evaluation in negotiations with critical suppliers
  • Facilitate activities between supplier and internal customers in communicating requests and resolving problems such as design issues, changes in specifications, and/or non-compliance in both product quality & documentation.
  • Assist in resolving problems with purchases or services; discuss defective or unacceptable goods/services with users, suppliers or inspection/quality control to determine source trouble/problem and appropriate corrective action.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive audience, communicating status and projected impact of key projects with key facts and trends to support business case; contribute to special projects as required to meet corporate strategic objectives
  • Drive procurement synergies in post-merger integration and assure timely implementation of projects and cash realization; communicate status of results and contribute to playbook to accelerate synergy realization
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university and a minimum of eight years related experience
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervisory responsibility for a staff of Global Commodity Managers
  • Experience and comfort working with data from a variety of sources
  • Advanced spreadsheet techniques (Excel) required
  • Experience creating presentations and reporting to executive audience
  • Experience working on international assignments and with global stakeholders
  • Additional language skills (French) would be a plus
  • ERP data analysis and report running (SAP) would be a plus
  • Firm understanding and practice of strategic sourcing process
  • The ability to translate data into meaningful planning information for Finance, Sales and Operations teams
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly identify issues and find workable solutions
  • Understanding of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) techniques and concepts
  • Manufacturing requirements planning
  • Able to manage multiple projects/processes under tight concurrent deadlines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) and/or APICS certification desirable
